With the announcement that the PlayStation Vita is dropping down to $199/€199, for the United States and Europe respectively and that memory cards are also dropping in price with it, now is the perfect time to take advantage of all the features the Vita has to offer: especially those involving the PlayStation 4!
PS4 Experts has assembled five reasons why you should consider purchasing a PlayStation Vita, especially if you are purchasing a PlayStation 4!
1. Remote Play
At Gamescom 2013 Sony revealed that almost every PlayStation 4 game is playable on the Vita via remote play. What this means is that you're not confined to playing a PlayStation 4 game on your television screen; you can transfer that game to your Vita to continue playing right where you left off.
Similar to the Wii U and the Wii U Gamepad, this feature enables you to take your PlayStation 4 games on the go. A sibling needs to use the television to watch the big game? Just turn on your Vita, sync it to your PlayStation 4 and continue playing Watch Dogs.
It's also been announced that the Vita will be able to wake the PS4 from standby mode, so you'll always be able to access your PS4 from your Vita at any time.
2. Cross-Platform Party Chat
It was recently revealed that Vita users would be able to communicate with users on the PlayStation 4 via cross-platform party chat. Essentially, you'll be able to play any Vita game, such as Persona 4 Golden, while chatting with any friend online who is using a PlayStation 4.
With cross-platform party chat, as long as you have a Sony system of some kind you are always in reach of a friend.
The cross-buy feature enables you to purchase one version of a game and receive both the PlayStation 3 and Vita versions at once. For example, purchasing a copy of PlayStation All-Stars for the PlayStation 3 enables you to receive a free download of the game on your PlayStation Vita! Essentially, you're getting two games for the cost of one!
It's expected that this feature will carry over to the PlayStation 4, especially with many indie games, such as Hotline Miami 2 and Wasteland Kings, making appearances on both devices. Purchasing a PS4 copy of a game will most likely give you access to the Vita copy as well, which is a fantastic deal no matter how you look at it.
4. Instant Game Collection
You already know you'll need a PlayStation Plus account to get the most out of the PlayStation 4's online features, but did you also know PlayStation Plus entitles you to free games on the Vita?
The Vita frequently rotates in new Vita, PSP and indie games for free, enabling you to build a large game collection in no time at all as long as you have an active Plus account.
Currently, games such as Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Wipeout and Gravity Rush are free to PlayStation Plus members who own a Vita, with past games including Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus, Jet Set Radio and Blazblue. The Vita is worth it if only for the multitude of free games that PlayStation Plus users receive!
5. The Games
Of course, the final reason to own a Vita is for the games themselves. RPG lovers will find a lot to love in games such as Persona 4 Golden, Disgaea 3 and Soul Sacrifice. Action fans will find enjoyment in games such as Muramasa: Rebirth and Dragon's Crown while fighting game fans can enjoy Street Fighter X Tekken and Marvel Vs Capcom 3.
Plenty of indie games are available on the Vita as well, such as Hotline Miami, Spelunky and Machinarium, ensuring the system has something for everyone.
Games to look forward to include Ys: Memories of Celceta, Killzone: Mercenary and Valhalla Knights 3. Not to mention all the games you can play via remote play!
