A Bright Future for PS4

All the cards are on the table now. The next generation of video game consoles have been released and the battle wages on for the hearts and minds of consumers everywhere. Join us as we celebrate the victories and look into the future. You may want to pack some sunglasses, because the future is pretty damn bright.

We start with the lists above. Updated as of E3 2015, these lists are the comprehensive guide to what is announced, what's hot, and what's coming out for the PS4. The PS4 has already been making massive waves. As of March 1,2015, Sony announced that our console of choice has sold an amazing 20 million units worldwide!

The PS4 broke records, reaching this milestone faster than any other PlayStation console in history. How's the competition you ask? Well, as of the same time period, Microsoft has only shipped, not sold, ten million Xbox Ones. Wow, do you smell that burn? Sony is demolishing them! Is it just because the PS4 is more powerful?

That's certainly part of it, but when you really boil it down, it's all about the games, and PS4 has delivered and is poised to continue bringing the heat into 2016. Here are some of the best current and upcoming titles to keep an eye on!

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End

Another game with rumors coming out of every site, the PS4 E3 2015 conference showcased some incredible gameplay with Nathan behind the wheel for an intense driving sequence. The graphics continue to astonish and the tight design and detail continues to impress. It's coming 2016 and it can't be here soon enough. We are getting an Uncharted Collection for PS4 this fall though for anyone who didn't play them the first time around.

No Man's Sky

A game made by an independent developer where you play as an explorer in a massive procedurally generated universe where you can explore the stars in a ship, navigate planets and fight in battles, all without a single loading screen! With literally Quintillions of planets to explore, this is one game that won't be lacking in the content department!

This game made huge waves since the showcase at E3 and while we don't have a solid date for it yet, this is going to be one to keep an eye on.

The Order: 1886

This one came out to some divisive opinions, but there are some solid facts that must be made known. For starters, the graphics are positively incredible, the game is an exclusive, the story and setting are completely unique as well, and the gameplay is rock solid. Sure it may not break the wheel, but it does do everything right and with a lot of style to boot.

If you like polished games with great set piece moments, look no further. For more, check out our full review.

The Last Guardian

From the makers of ICO and Shadow of the Colossus comes the next unique and breathtaking Sony exclusive in the form of The Last Guardian. You may be feeling a sense of Deja Vu, if you do, it's okay, that's normal. This was originally supposed to be a PS3 game, but it disappeared from the world and was thought to be lost forever. Instead, it's coming back on the PS4 and it stars a young boy and his crazy bird/dog type creature.

There's no doubt this will be another emotional masterpiece, so look out for it in early 2016.

Final Fantasy VII: Remake

We all joked about it like it wasn't going to happen, and then it did. Final Fantasy VII is getting a full remake for the PS4 and if the first trailer is anything to go by, it's going to be absolutely gorgeous. From what it sounds like, they're going to rework bits and pieces of it, but ultimately this will be the remake fans have been craving since the PS3 tech demo that suggested it was a possibility.

Kingdom Hearts III

It's happening, and this year we saw some gameplay footage at the Square Enix press conference. The game is staying true to its roots, while also branching out into new and exciting territory with epic moves based on popular Disney rides and attractions. It works, and the impressive animations call to mind some of the epic summons in other RPGs like Final Fantasy.

Star Wars Battlefront

While there's no word on another Battlefield this year, we are getting a DICE made Star Wars Battlefront which is arguably better. Running on the Frostbite Engine, this gorgeous game showed off some excellent gameplay on Hoth at the EA conference and some co-op gameplay at the Sony conference. It's out this fall.

Fallout 4

Yet another rumor finally confirmed! Fallout 4 is coming to PS4 this November and it's set in a post apocalyptic Boston where you can make any character you want and proceed to explore the detailed open world where you'll find quests of all kinds and tons of different characters and enemies. It's an RPG to own, and I know I'll be getting my copy day one.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

While the Witcher series has always been known, the third game in the series made the jump to PS4 and since its release it has been breaking records left and right. The game is positively packed with incredible story and side quests along with a huge world and hundreds of hours of gameplay. If you're waiting on Fallout or any of the 2016 titles, this one will keep you plenty busy in the meantime.

Horizon Zero Dawn

This was a big reveal at E3 2015. From the developers of Killzone comes an incredibly unique title set in a world where tribal cave dwelling people hunt futuristic robotic animals. Not sure what the whole story is yet, but the footage shown at the press conference was more than enough to make this look like a game worth playing. It was out of left field in the best way possible, and we cannot wait to hear more about this title.

Tom Clancy's Game Lineup

Ubisoft brought us several new announcements on their lineup of Tom Clancy games including a release date for Rainbow Six: Siege this fall, a March 2016 date for The Division, and the announcement of a new Ghost Recon. Now all we need is a new Splinter Cell and we're good to go!

What games are you looking forward to? What game would you recommend to new PS4 owners that they MUST play? Tell us all about it in the comments!

random feelings

i like a good amount of genres and seriously, the playstation4 needs a crapload of power to carry the future gen. for 10 years like the playstation 2 did, if it's quickly upgraded again, i think sony will only farm money off their most loyal fans. i have a limited budget so i can't afford to spend like 500 bucks which is probably like what the ps4 is going to cost every lets say 2 years with the handhelds. i guess FFV will be in the PS4 then, i actually prefer just pushing the PS3 to the max first, like in all seriousness, the PS3 still has atleast 5 years of further development and PS4 is just going to destroy it. if you ask me, i would rather it not come out for another 3 years.

What it must have

Since Sony wants their market back and get good sales, they'll need to add more ram,PS3 support,Cross-Game Chat and better online That's all the PS4 needs

pathetic

this is sad ive read about people sayin that the wow factor is in ps4. its sad to think that sony will be ditchen the ps3 so soon when then only used like 30 or 40% of its potential. you would think that they would take their time to sit there and try and make a game that is so insane that it would break the ps3 then be like... upgrade time! that is when i think they should make a addtional console.

Vita Min>Max

Well they're saying that because of the PS Vita. Have you got the PS Vita? Because your immediate thought will be "wow, the PS4 is gonna be insane; Sony's back baby!" That's what happened to me. And that OLED display. It makes my Samsung D8000 S-PVA panel look like it needs emergency help.

cant wait

luckly i didnt bought a ps3, well i was thinking in buying one, but with the money i have saved i might be able to buy a ps4 instead!!

Me Too!

Same here! I went into a game store after Christmas at about the start of January this year thinking that i might get a good deal for a ps3. It was killing me how i couldnt really try any new good games because i only owned a ps2. So anyway, i went in and asked the guy at the counter if i should get a ps3. the dude said no and i was like O_O then he said that i should wait because the ps4 was supposed to be coming out this year. so here i am, waiting patiently (or as patiently as i can) for the ps4 to come out. i sure as hell hope that the ps4 has backwards compatibility so that i can play some of the good ps3 games that i want and still play some of my old ps2 games :) Did i mention that my ps2 is broken?

Tekken FTW

i hope tekken will better

ps4

will the ps4 be able to play ps3 games?

Not Exactly

It's possible if - a) Sony look to nVidia b) Sony look to Cell c) Sony look to Rambus From that, I would make a guess there is a 20% of that happening. So it's not exactly unlikely, but it's not exactly something to expect.

PS3 trust

I have my ps3 for like 3 years. it didnt broke, only some internet problems. but sometimes if i /play to long its gonna freeze, thats a way to stop being game addict. hope ps4 doesnt freeze.

:(

It's sad how i just bought a PS3 in January. I won't have enough money to buy PS4 until like 2015. Plus i agree with the people who say the PS3 hasn't reached its peak. 6 years after its release it is STILL creating good exclusives.

PR

Well don't be sad. The next playstation is a likely 2013 PR. There is just no way Sony would want to battle with Microsoft and Kinect 2.0 this year in terms of PR. And Nintendo are more with Microsoft than you believe. Something is going on with those two companies. I don't think this is a selection process, I just don't think Microsoft consider Sony the right company to "level with". Microsoft are too big; and too confident. These leaks about Xbox Next/720 are no accident. Microsoft are confident about 6x this and 6670 that and "better than Wii2, but not by much". And PS Vita doesn't change too much, other than Sony establishing one important reminder to their customers and competitors - "sky-high hardware quality and power through and through". I don't see Microsoft stating "we're not shovelling out a piece of cheap junk, with an Apple-like appearance to throw you off the scent..." Am I right? You bet I am.

Sony Talks About PlayStation 4 Being A Distraction

President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America Jack Tretton commented in a interview with IGN about PlayStation 4 being a distraction for the company. Tretton said that the release of PS4 will depend on Sony’s current platforms and how they perform. “In terms of when you talk about [the next generation] and when you announce it, it really depends on the health of the existing platform and the other things you have going on,” Tretton said. “And right now, we’re focused on PlayStation 3, and I’ve got another platform (PS Vita) to get out the door in seven days, so I don’t want to be thinking about trying to launch new technology anytime soon. I want to focus all our energy on our console business, which is really just hitting its stride, and Vita, which really deserves a dedicated push from us.” Tretton admitted he would be distracted if he had to discuss PlayStation 4 this year. “I, quite frankly, would be very distracted if I had to be talking about next generation hardware this year.”

Path

There is nothing there that says the PS4 is not going to happen. And if Sony's course is PS Vita, they've done it perfectly for a piece of technology like that. PS Vita is an "Apple Standards" if I ever saw one. A PS4 "Apple Standards" would therefore also have to be along that thought process. The way Tretton words a statement of "no launch anytime soon; focus and distraction", means that the next playstation actually exists; but there is a "PS Vita Standard" path to and from it that's probably putting Sony on edge about it all. I'm not saying it's an overly expensive design and pushes too many boundaries, I'm just saying that from looking over pre-Vita release, Sony were extremely nervous about the whole thing - Nintendo, Smartphones; you name it - Sony were being hit from all sides like they had grown very small. Not to mention when Ridge Racer was a PS Vita release - ouch. And then you have Kinect 2.0 which may punt Vita out of the ring entirely - for whatever reason we don't fully know about Kinect 2.0. PS4 is happening; Sony just aren't ready to comment or disclose anything this year. That's not exactly a bad thing. We now have a Sony that is actually breathing rythmically; rather than a big-headed dragon that coughs loudly in your face for attention.

Grand Theft Auto

Ps4 needs gta san an dreas okay or it will loose bout 3 or four cumstermers becuase thats my fave gta

Fantasy Mixed with Reality

I am beginning to see how surreal video games are becoming. It is awesome. Of course, I know that Playstation 4 is going to be expensive. But, the third one already costs too much today. I do have PS2. I have to wait until I have enough money or if the price for PS3 goes down even more.

EPIC

The ps4 will be epic. i cant wait for this console to come out. hope it comes out really soon!

Epic Squared

I absolutely agree with your Epic assertion.

Generations' Gap

GTA5 ESVI Those type of game worlds need one thing. It's not CPU power - we've already got that. It's not GPU power - we've already got that. It's Memory. Not 1Gb. Not 2Gb; but 4Gb Unified minimum. And from a developers perspective, like Crytek and Epic, 8Gb Unified. Not Video memory and Main memory separated. And it's Storage mediums that can read-stream 1Gb/sec at 0.01ms - a 4th Generation SSD. Otherwise, all you will do is repeat the problems on PC x86 architecture. Repeat the same knowns and the same "unknowns in a different package". The new generation systems will stay just where everything has gone long before, and remain that way for almost 10 years into the future. That kind of approach will fail. Fortunately, Microsoft, Sony and AMD seem to think the above insights are the right way to go. Not sure about Nintendo - but I think something big is going to be announced with Nintendo's intentions of putting out something that rivals the best Sony and Microsoft can think up. If any one of these game console makers gets it wrong anywhere near what they did this generation, one of them is going to end up with a 250 Million user base within 4 years of their releases. And the remainder wondering WTF happened.

Max Payen 3

Will Max payne 3 run on ps4???

monster hunter

monster hunter has got to be one of the least appreciated game of all time, now that might be due to capcom not releasing most monster hunter games to north America, but if you've ever played monster hunter freedom unite you'll know how good the series is.... now right now most of the mh titles are for either a portable device or a horrible nintendo console (not naming any names) now if they were able to move a game like monster hunter to a good console with next generation graphics who knows what kind of possibility it might hold. bottom line is monster hunter is an amazing series witch would motivate all hardcore fans (and trust me there out there) to buy a ps4, just like monster hunter freedom unite motivated me to buy a psp.thank you for reading this. from skipper

Uncharted 4

There was a job opening at naughty dog for a graphic designer that can render an image to the millionth or so megapixel, the regular PS3 games run at about 200-400k mp... therefore the PS4 graphics will be near reality and more than likely compatible with 3d tvs.

Bulca Bulca 619! :P

Madden NFL 13 and NHL 13

Will ps4 have the Madden Franchise and NHL games they are my fav Franchises ever even better than Call of Duty

Well...

It would be nice if they r gong 2 release Final Fantasy, Monster Hunter and The Elder Scrolls. I just came over a "let's play" of Skyrim and I wanted the game but i didn't have the money to buy a gamer pc just 4 skyrim, so I wanted 2 buy a Ps3 but when I read that its possible that the Ps4 is going 2 release christmas '12 I prefer w8ing... sry 4 my bad language, I'm German -_-"

PS4 NEEDS MW2

Even though it is an old game, it is my favourite game it better be on the shelves... maybe with improved graphics or something but i hope i see it for the PS4

Forgiven

It's forgiven but ps3 fat is better than xbox 360 or xbox 720 ps4 is coming in 2013 so it's very soon and it's forgiven

Metal Gear?

Hideo Kojima has to some more ideas on metal gear, like make games of the old nes games or a game with the boss back when she was in her cobra unit something like that ive got alot of ideas and i hope he does to so cant wait for the ps4 to come out. rising doesnt seem like the metal gear game that i want to play but im still getting it because im a huge fan of the series.

MEGAMAN X9

MEGAMAN X9 FANS PLZ SUPPORT

Wouldn't mind.

I wouldn't mind a next gen Megaman game, 2D/3D edition, a bit like Paper Mario style, but in Full HD with really good frame rates, easily possible on a moderate step up in hardware from PS3 or Xbox 360. A collection of games would even be cool. I don't know if one's been released on this generation of consoles, or the games as a part of a collection with other games of the era. IMO a good retro game is easily as good and sometimes better than a decent modern one.

ps4 games they should have

Ps4 games they should have bring back jersey devil and have simpons games and have spideman game since in the the movie peter parker looks like he is infected. You could have that part in the game he transforms into a man spider just like in the cartoon. And you can have the xmen try to cure spiderman but it wont be easy his strenth has increased 50 times more than when he was a human with spider strenth. And when the cure him with the help of beast he is thankful to be alive and all is well but as spiderman is web slinging across the city some one is in the dark talking he is a powerful man and he is the kingpin. The next game could be the 35th anniverasry of espn the could have espn 2k13 nfl football the could have live updates with someone talking about other teams and always new comentary if the quarterback was 58 for 70 with 8 touchdow passess no picks and he had over 600 hundred. Or if had was 5 for 32 for 73 yards no touchdows and 4 picks the commentary talks about that. And it should be endless mound stones always improving you shold be able to move out the pocket and throw on the run and the field goal shouldn't be impossible if it is a very good field goal kicker if in if he can hit a 71 yard field go in practice he should be able to hit it in a pressure game. Have you can increase your ranking or decrease depending on your game. Have it be totally accurate like the real nfl and no giving up. Have fans throwing snow and thrash on the field . And bring bring back the late hits in nfl blitz have you dont dload.

I really hope that whatever

I really hope that whatever Final Fantasy game is made will not be as stupid as FF 8 or 13. Both of those really sucked.

You really didn't give us

You really didn't give us games you'd like to see on PS4. It was a really long post about a horrible story line that you would like go see in a Marvel video game. You did a much better job with explaining what your would like to see in sports games but I had a bit of trouble following you. I kind of understood about the announcers doing post game wrapups and explaining stats but what you mentioned would require so much time for an actor to record the script that it would cost way too much money to develop. Not to mention the cost. The only thing I liked about your post was when you mentioned the crowd throwing snow. I only wish I had a snowball go throw at YOU! LOL.....I'm printing out your post and putting it in my book of fail.

Pokemon

Pokemon on PS4 is a great idea!!!!!!!

Final Fantasy

I'd love to see a Final Fantasy game with graphics up to the standard of Advent Children. Make it an open world remake of FF7, only with fully interactive scenery, NPCs that have proper AI. I guess the level of Square's E3 2012 demo would be good, something built around that technology would satisfy IMO. Full HD, with 60fps, high levels of effects and tonnes of stuff going on onscreen. A proper real time world, as in a full world, with no tiny characters but full sized ones in both the towns, cities and expansive areas. I know it's a trademark of most Final Fantasy games but don't make the battles just appear, make them seemless. There should be no loading screens once you get into the game. I'd also like to see Quantic Dreams release a game based around the Kara character in their Kara tech demo. Push that further on new hardware, again make it full 1920x1080, high levels of MSAA, AF, introduce some tesselation, just really make her and the world around her even more real. A new Gran Turismo game that actually delivers on what's promissed. That makes good use of the PS4's new hardware and doesn't take an age to come out (seriously we should be on GT6 by now). A new Rachet and Clank would be good. God Of War. A new uncharted. If The Last Of Us is good then something that ties in with that story.

hmm...

Basically what you're looking for is something like FF12 and Dirge of Cerebus where enemies are "there" and you are fight exaclty what you see. God of War 4 for the PS4 perhaps? Though it might be somewhat unlikely now.

Take their words as what thsy are!

Sony keeps saying things like talking about the PS4 in the coming year would just be a big distraction. I feel like they're moving along with development of the PS4 and all of their next gen plans but just aren't being very public or vocal about them. The only difference is that they're not engaging the public or the media about what they're doing. I think it's a great idea for them to let us running around wondering what's going on....let us build the hype for them. I personally think it would be amazing if they just kept giving little hints here and there and one day BAM! Welcome to the PS4! I really hope they not only get the jump on Microsoft but blow them out of the water with this generation.
