Top 10 PS4 Games to Get this Christmas

Top Playstation Christmas Games

Christmas time is fast approaching, and the PlayStation 4 has recently exploded in the amount of quality games to get. With so many games vying for a spot on your Christmas list, getting stuck with a dud will turn Christmas cheer into Christmas sneer.

Here are the top 10 PlayStation 4 games to get this Christmas, letting you show potential gift givers the best PS4 stocking stuffers this holiday season. See our Black Friday article link below.

1)PlayStation VR Picks (PS4 Pro Compatible)
We’re kicking this year’s list off with a look at the best games available for PlayStation VR. We could easily fill an entire list with these incredible new experiences, but we don’t want to leave out our gaming brothers and sisters who haven’t seen the light of VR yet, so we set aside one spot in our Christmas list this year.

If you’re going all in with VR, these are the must-play titles that you should be requesting:

Those are just some of the best ones we’ve played thus far. Among those, you’ll find a great mix of genres and a great showcase of graphics if you’re playing on PS4 Pro.

2) Uncharted 4 (PS4 Pro Compatible)

One of this year’s standout titles is Uncharted 4. If you haven’t played it, you absolutely must. If you have, or you’ve picked up a PS4 Pro, this is one of the games that will be playable in glorious 4K. Yeah, if you thought this game looked good on a standard HD TV, you’re in for a treat.

Every PS4 (or Pro) owner should play Uncharted 4. Put it on your list if you haven’t played this outstanding title yet.

3) The Last Guardian (PS4 Pro Compatible)

This long-awaited sequel to Shadow of the Colossus has been in and out of the spotlight for years. It was originally supposed to be on the PS3, and just recently we found out it’s finally, FINALLY coming out.

Whether you’re a fan of Team ICO’s other games, or you just love a good adventure, The Last Guardian is one that I would wholeheartedly recommend. If you’re looking to break in that new PS4 Pro, this one will absolutely be compatible with 4K televisions, and the extra power will be used for performance improvements on standard HD as well.

4) Battlefield 1, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, and Titanfall 2 (All PS4 Pro Compatible)

So, we’ve played all the big shooters this year at PS4 Experts, and our own Travis Wall did reviews for each one that you should check out. Having played them myself, I feel like each one really brought a lot to the table. Battlefield has a great campaign and the multiplayer is better than ever.

Titanfall 2 brought an excellent campaign to the table with pitch-perfect level design. The multiplayer has also been improved drastically, and they’re promising all the DLC free to players without the need for a season pass.

Finally, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare had a surprisingly fun campaign with great space battles and ship combat. The zombies mode is fun as always, and while the multiplayer didn’t break any new ground, it’s still solid. Plus, if you buy the legacy edition, you get Modern Warfare Remastered, which is the crown jewel of COD.

See? This is why I had to include all three! They all bring something great to the table. I also grouped them into one slot because I’m not going to pad this list with three shooters. That’s a cop-out, and we’re not about cop-outs here.

A final note, these are ALL PS4 Pro compatible with enhancements on both 4K and 1080p televisions. For the HD owners like myself, you can expect features like full 1080p resolution and more stable framerates.

5)Dishonored 2 (PS4 Pro Compatible)

In a world full of shooters and numbered sequels, the first Dishonored came out with a totally unique world and some epic supernatural assassinations (or lack thereof, if you preferred). Needless to say, people were excited when Dishonored 2 was announced.

Purchasing this sequel gets you a download of the original game remastered as well if you get in on the ground floor. Even if you don’t get the first game, the sequel brings the ability to play as Corvo from the first game, or as the empress Emily Kaldwin. Both have unique powers to use throughout the game.

With huge open levels, freedom in how you play, and multiple endings, this one is going to be on a lot of wishlists. Go through and kill everything, or make your way through the game and not kill a single person (including your targets!). The choice is yours.

6) Overwatch

Blizzard could do a game about Hello Kitty and it would sell like hotcakes. That why I’m not surprised that their competitive shooter, Overwatch, has become so popular. If you like games like Team Fortress 2, or online multiplayer is your forte, then you should look into this one.

While there’s no campaign to speak of, the wide variety of characters, and the promise of new content as time goes on keeps people coming back to this one again and again.

7) Final Fantasy XV (PS4 Pro Compatible)

Final Fantasy fans have been waiting for this one for a long time. Did I say long? I meant LONG! Well, it’s finally coming at the end of November, and while it’s pretty impossible for it to meet the expectations people have for it, the demos thus far and footage are looking good.

With plenty of support and DLC coming down the road, this one should keep us all busy for a long time. Or at the very least, it will keep RPG fans happy until Kingdom Hearts 3 comes out.

8) Watch Dogs 2 (PS4 Pro compatible)

The first Watch Dogs wasn’t a bad game, but it was the victim of misplaced hype. Ubisoft showed a game that looked incredible and by the time it came out, those graphics had been brought down a few notches.

Combine that with a lackluster story, and the game didn’t get the most praise when it came out. That being said, the unique hacking mechanics were solid and thankfully Ubisoft is trying again with Watch Dogs 2.

A new main character, a setting in San Francisco, plenty of new hacking mechanics, and a tone that feels like a mixture of a hipster’s paradise and Grand Theft Auto are working for this sequel. If you’re tired of GTA V and you need something to fill the void while you wait for Red Dead Redemption 2, I’m feeling this one.

9) NBA 2K17

Among the sports games that hit each year, NBA continuously manages to improve and raise the bar. This year was no different, and that’s why I think basketball fans should absolutely be picking up this year’s version.

While Fifa, Madden, and MLB are doing their thing, NBA has once again addressed player issues and brought a feature-rich experience.

10) DOOM

I’m already seeing some amazing deals for DOOM on Black Friday, and this game deserves your attention regardless of price. While the multiplayer is nothing to write home about, the campaign here is one of the best FPS experiences I’ve had in a long time.

There’s plenty of story to be found in the logs and menu entries, but the gameplay itself is fast, raw, and visceral. You’ll find this game for the lowest prices yet this holiday season and you absolutely should not pass it up. One of the best shooters of 2016.
