Yellow Light Of Death.
May I just start of my saying that the yellow light of death problem is not caused by one single problem.
The yellow light is shown to inform you of a general hardware failure. This includes the hard drive, power supply unit and many other components.
So take my advice and carry out a diagnostic to find out the exact problem before proceeding with re-flowing. I am completely against re-flowing for this reason as it may not be due to the fact that the Cell or RSX have become separated from the motherboard.
To perform a Hard drive diagnostic:
1. Buy or borrow a unused 2.5 inch SATA hard drive.
2. Remove the old hard drive
3. Remove the old hard drive from the caddy.
4. Put the new hard drive in the caddy and replace the hard drive.
5. Power on system.
If it still doesn't work then I recommend sending it to sony.
If it does work:
1. download the latest firmware update from software/"]http://uk.playstation.com/ps3/support/system-software/[/URL]
2. Put it on a USB flash drive which is formatted to FAT32 in the folder PS3 -> UPDATE -> (then the file) Make sure the folder names are in capitals!!
3. Then there will be a few different screens after which the PS3 will turn off.
4. After you turn it it will be like your system is new so you would have to do all settings and re-download all games, add-ons etc.
