Share button isn't hurting anyone.
In response to a prior poster's concerns:
You say "There should be: start and select."
Why? Start should be there as a pause button, but Select? We don't need Select. Even the Xbox changed the name to "Back" and EVEN THEN the default 'back' button on the 360 tends to be the red B button, (and the PS2/PS3 default 'back' button was traditionally the 'Triangle' Button. I see nothing wrong with repurposing a button that had little to no importance. Besides, it may still pull double-duty when not in a game; we won't know until later this year.
My second point is that I don't see the inclusion (or re-purposing) of a single button costing all that much money, especially when you take into consideration that this new dualshock has a touch-panel on the front of it! (aka $$$).
Thirdly, "what will the button do if its a non-multiplayer game?" - I'd imagine it will do the same thing. You don't have to be playing an online game to share your massive victory in a God of War campaign or other single-player game - you just need an internet connection. I think the button would be just as useful for showing people how to get a trophy in a difficult one-player game as it would be to brag about a multiplayer massacre.

I assume this is for social media. Why is broadcasting your every action on the internet so important that it requires a special button prominently positioned on the front of your controller?

Sony has put this button on the controler for easy recording. If you were seeing a glitch or having an amazing game you could hit the button and remove most of the leg work of posting the video.

If it is so important to the company to include the social media, why not include that as a requirement for software development and gaming companies? including the social media button will be a waste of space and money. What about games that don't include this function, what will the button do if its a non-multiplayer game? why not include the social media function as a subcategory under the traditional select button. There should be: start and select.
