One Gamers Thoughts Leading Into The Playstation 4

With the Playstation 4 announcement literally weeks away it got me thinking about my Playstation 3. More importantly it got me thinking about what I love about my PlayStation 3, and also what frustrates the heck out of me.

Now let me just get this out of the way. I am no fan boy of any one console. I am a gamer and I like games. I have been a PlayStation player since I got a Playstation 1 on my 15th birthday in November 1995 (Man I am getting old). Ever since then I have looked forward to what Sony has to offer to us gamers. So with that being said let me tell you what I would like and not like when it comes to the new PlayStation 4.

Better Updates Please
Even the most hard-core Sony fan boy has to admit that the Playstation 3 does like it's updates. There is nothing worse than having a spare half hour to get some gaming done, and have to spend five minutes waiting for the console to update.

The really frustrating thing about the updates, is the frequency of them and the time it takes. My Xbox updates in a fraction of the time, so I know it'ss nothing to do with my internet connection. I am sure updates are something that will be addressed in the PS4.

Better Reliability
OK, so I know the Xbox has way more reliability issues than the PlayStation 3, but I am currently on my second Playstation 3. I feel a little burned by Sony to be honest, as I went through 2 Playstation 1’s, 2 Playstation 2’s (until I bought a slim), and like I said, I am on my 2nd PlayStation 3.

What really bugs me is that we are in a day and age of gaming when we just seem to accept that consoles break down. I am going to try and be more hard headed this generation and if I have a console break down because of the way it has been built then I will not be replacing it. So in other words, I hope that from the get go the PlayStation 4 is well designed and there will be no need for re-design in the future because of hardware problems.

One Gamers Thoughts Leading Into The Playstation 4 Better Trophy Interface
I love the idea of trophies as a mater of fact. I like the idea better than the gamer score on my Xbox 360, but when I want to check my achievements on my Xbox its done with a couple of clicks. On the PlayStation 3 it takes longer than it should. I know people will argue saying that it takes a minute at most to sync the data, but I'm sorry this is a minute more than it should take.

PlayStation Plus Is Awesome!!!
I love Playstation Plus. I will admit that for years I much preferred the overall interface of Xbox Live, but I really cannot justify my Xbox Live subscription anymore when I have PlayStation Plus. Playstation Plus is a great service. At the very least there should be 1 game a month that you are interested in. I really cannot wait to see how Sony is going to expand with there Playstation Plus service when the new PS4 hits.

I think a very smart move by Sony would be to include lets say a month or maybe even a 90 day Playstation Plus voucher with every new Playstation 4 console. I am sure once a gamer has sampled it that they will see what a great deal it is. After all that is how I got hooked. I got a free 30 day trial. And after that I was sold on Playstation Plus.

Mandatory Installs
Some games force you to install them to your Playstation hard drive. Now I totally get why some developers do this, I really do, but that still annoys me. So I hope the Playstation 4 is faster at doing this. I still remember a few years back when I bought Devil May Cry 4 and I had to wait what felt like an eternity for it to install to the hard drive.

L and R Triggers
I love the Dual Shock 3 and I hope the rumors of a brand new control pad are not true. Sony does not need to change anything. We have two analogue sticks, a dpad and 8 buttons, what more do you need? The only thing I would like to change, more than anything, is the L and R triggers. It is really hard to explain, but they have always felt cheap to me. Which is a shame because the rest of the controller scores a big A+

Final Thoughts
I have great gaming moments on my PlayStation 3. Not counting Nintendo, but in a battle between this and the Xbox 360, the Playstation 3 is the winner when it comes to exclusives for me. God of War, Uncharted, Resistance, Killzone, Ni No Kuni, Ratchet & Clank and that is just the ones from the top of my head. At the end of the day I am into a game console for the games.

I am sure that the Playstation 4 is going to offer all the great franchises in a way that is sure to blow our minds. Will the console have many other great features? Well yes of course it will. I just hope that when they are thinking of what cool stuff to add, they have taken a moment to think of what little annoyances need to be fixed from the PlayStation 3.

In all I am very excited to see what the Playstation 4 has to offer.

This gamer thought about the incoming PS4 and what should be improve. I think one more thing would be the improvement of the XMB. I felt like they could do more with it.
