Diablo 3 Setting Fire To The Playstation 4

For me one of the most exciting announcements that came out of the Sony press conference was that Diablo 3 would be making its way to the PlayStation 4. If the fact that Diablo 3 would be getting a console release was not exciting enough. Chris Metzen of Blizzard also said that the game is running great on consoles, and that the game has been worked to play on a console rather than just being a straight PC port. I also want to mention that Diablo 3 will also be making its way on to this current gen the PlayStation 3.

While many of us are very excited at Diablo 3 landing on the Playstation. There's still a little uncertainty on how a game that was designed around playing on a PC would work on a console. Well there is no need to be worried because when it hits the PS4, Diablo 3 will have its controls designed around the controller. Chris Metzen also said that these controls make playing Diablo 3 easier than ever.

For many people (my self included) even more exciting than the fact that the game is being reworked to be a joy to play with a controller is that gamers can play four player local co-op on one console. This to me is huge news! It is pretty crazy to think that with all Sony’s talk about the online social aspects of the PlayStation 4 that one of the coolest announcements was a game was going to have good old fashioned local co-op. I am sure Diablo 3 is going to be an absolute blast when you have 3 buddies sitting next to you on the couch as you make your way through the game. Chris Metzen even went Lord of the Ring’s on us, when he proclaimed it would be “one couch to rule them all”. I do enjoy online games, but there is just something special about gaming with your friends sitting next to you. I am sure that this could make Diablo 3 a instant purchase for many Playstation 4 adopters.

Diablo 3 Setting Fire To The Playstation 4When Diablo 3 does hit the Playstation 4, it will feature the most bangged up to date version of Diablo 3 at its time of release. So all of the updates that have been made on the PC version since the game was released, will be included right there from the start. I am sure this may even spark some interest from PC gamers who have had some hassle playing Diablo 3 on the PC.

Two things though were not addressed about Diablo 3’s transition to the Playstation 4. First of all, there was no mention at all about the Diablo Auction House. This is like a store where gamers can spend real money to buy things. Also one of the annoying things about the PC version of Diablo 3 is even if you are playing the game in single player, you have to be connected to the internet. There was no mention of if this at the meeting. Will this be the case with the PlayStation 4 version?

One other very interesting little piece of information that Chris Metzen said was that there is a “strategic partnership” with Sony. He really did not elaborate on what this would have in store for Playstation gamers in the future, but pretty much as soon as he said it rumors started to fly around the internet like crazy. Could it be possible that the Playstation 4 is capable of cross platform play with PC gamers? Or could this partnership mean that Blizzard is actually going to bring World of Warcraft to the Playstation 4? Of course this is just pure speculation (and maybe some wishful thinking as well). However, I am sure Sony and Blizzard must have something special in store. One other thing that was interesting was the fact that at no point was it said that Diablo 3 would be a PlayStation exclusive, so there are still some rumblings that the game may show up on the Xbox 720 at some point.

Diablo 3 hitting the home consoles, is a great thing I think. It does open the door for more similar games to perhaps make an appearance on the consoles in the future.

Diablo 3 To Have Offline Mode - March 07,2013
One of the biggest complaints when Diablo 3 hit PC’s was the fact that it forced gamers to always be online even if they were playing single player. While it has not been “officially” confirmed, there has been rumblings that the announcement of local co op play means that Diablo 3 on the Playstation 3 and 4 will not require gamers to always be connected to the internet. This is great news, and it may make some PC gamers want to pick up a PlayStation 3 or 4 to play some uninterrupted Diablo 3.
