The Witness for the PS4

The mastermind of the critically acclaimed Braid, Jonathan Blow was on stage at the Sony press conference to make an announcement regarding The Witness. Braid was an absolute monster that many gamers fell in love with. Also due to his part in the Indie Game: The Movie, Jonathan Blow was a game designer that many gamers really got behind. Well from the video footage that was shown and from what he was telling us, I am sure that The Witness is going to hit the PlayStation 4 like a ton of bricks. The Witness at heart is a puzzle game, but it sounds like such a unique and special game-play experience that I am sure Jonathan Blow is going to strike gold once again.

The Witness has been doing the rounds for a while now. So many people have actually heard of this game, but the big announcement is that the PS4 will be the only console to have The Witness. Well for a little while at least. You see this game is going to be a timed exclusive on the Playstation 4. This is a huge advantage for Sony. When you think of just how successful Braid was, it's a great decision getting this as an early timed exclusive for the console.

The Witness is an open world puzzle game that sounds like it's going to be a great deal of fun. One thing that sounded very interesting was how Jonathan Blow said during an interview with Edge The Witness is a game that is all about epiphany. The moment when you are stuck on a puzzle, and then bang it hits you, and you figure it out. This does sound very cool indeed and I am sure it's a feeling that all gamers can relate to. So the idea of having a game that is actively trying to force this emotion sounds pretty amazing.

The “story” of The Witness is that you are on this island and you can go anywhere you want. If you come across a puzzle that is driving you crazy, there is no need to worry about it because you can simply wander off and do something else. You can return to the puzzle at a later time.

One very interesting thing that was said, is that while this is a open world game, it's contained to one small island. It was also said that you could run the whole way across the island in under 2 minutes. There are 3 or 4 areas in the game that are just a mater of seconds away from each other. While the world that you will be playing in does sound small, I am confident that there will be many secrets about this place, that we have not yet heard about. Yet despite this small world, the game has over 25 hours of game play up its sleeve. The Witness sounds like it's going to be one of the games to watch for as we get closer to the Playstation 4 launch.

Braid Creator Jonathan Blow Is Bringing The Witness To The PlayStation 4In terms of the games visuals, this is just pure eye candy. Braid, when it hit gamers a few years back, was a great looking game. The Witness looks like it's going to follow that trend. Of course at the end of the day, graphics are not everything. I am more than sure, that this is going to be much more about the game-play experience than the way it looks.

The Witness, for me was one of the big announcements at the Sony press conference. The fact that they have managed to secure this as an exclusive really is huge and for some reason I feel that it's not getting the attention it deserves. Still, over time I am sure this game will be seen as one of the must have titles for the Playstation 4.

Blow Gives Reasons Regarding Why He Favors The PS4 –- April 11, 2013
While many gamers thought that getting "The Witness" as a timed exclusive was a very shrewd move on Sony’s part, game creator Jonathon Blow, gave the gaming world some very interesting reasons as to why he thinks the PS4 is more for gamers rather than the Xbox 720. He gave a very compelling interview with Edge, where he went on to say, that it is not only the rocky relationship he has had working with Microsoft while making games for the Xbox 360, but because of there views on the next generation of video game consoles as well.

He went on to say that as far as he knows, Microsoft is aiming for there next console to be more about entertainment, and Sony is more about the games. While he can appreciate Microsoft’s aim from a business decision, he says that he does not really agree. While it does sound like he wants to only work on the PlayStation 4, he also says that while he did have a bad time working with Microsoft in the past he would not rule out working with them in the future.

It's a very interesting interview, and it certainly makes me wonder if Sony has thought about singing him up to some kind of exclusivity deal, where his future games could be PlayStation exclusive.
