Watch Dogs for the PS4
Watch Dogs PS4
Watch Dogs is one of those titles that everyone has their eye on as a official PS4 game.
Watch Dogs came out of nowhere, debuting at Ubisoft's press conference to the confusion of everyone in the crowd. What is this game? What genre is this? It's rare in this day and age to keep something under wraps like Ubisoft did with Watch Dogs; historicially, most big E3 announcements are leaked before the show even begins. However, it only took a few minutes into the E3 2012 demo before new questions were asked, such as "When can I buy this?" and "When can I see more?"
Information about Watch Dogs is scarce, but here is what we do know. The game is in-development by Ubisoft with no release date available at this time, though many are speculating 2013. The game demo was brought to us courtesy of a high-end PC with graphics that many journalists and industry leaders say cannot be replicated on the current Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 systems. However, since E3 2012, Ubisoft and the producer of the game have stated the game will be available on the PS3, 360 and PC.
What makes the graphics in Watch Dogs so good? If you watch the E3 2012 demo, the first thing that pops out is the physics of the clothing; the main character's coat sways back and forth and conforms realistically to his body. The rain and water effects are top-notch along with the fire and smoke seen later in the demo. There is no slow-down at any time during the demo; not even during a ten car pile-up that occurs. If the PlayStation 3 can pull off the graphics we saw in the demo, Watch Dogs will be one of the best looking PlayStation 3 games released for the system.

What has gotten people excited isn't just the graphics but the gameplay as well. While many details about the gameplay aren't known, what we can see from the demo is that your character is gifted in hacking. To gain access to an exclusive club, he uses a device that short circuits everyone's cell phones; while they are trying to fix their phones, he sneaks into the club. Inside the club, he replicates a woman's voice on his phone to bring his target out of hiding and then uses a device to turn a traffic signal from green to red, initiating the ten car pile-up to draw his target out of his car. As Watch Dogs is an open-world sandbox title, just imagine the amount of havoc you could cause with these instruments at your disposal.
No details are known about the story. What we can gather from the demo is that Watch Dogs is set in the near future due to its technology and look. We don't know who the main character is, why he has this technology or why he kills the man at the end of the demo; however, it seems like Watch Dogs will be a story about revenge as the main character kills the man to "send a message" to his bosses.
As great as Watch Dogs is, there is one cause for concern: the combat. Near the end of the demo, a firefight erupts with our protagonist trading bullets with some well-armed gentlemen. As new and exciting as the hacking events were, the combat just looked standard and tired; it was your "typical take cover and shoot" gameplay we have seen a thousand times before. Hopefully Ubisoft will add in some of the game's unique hacking features to spice up the combat because as it currently stands, the generic combat looks to bring an otherwise cutting-edge game down.
Also on the minds of people who have watched the E3 demo is just how scripted is Watch Dogs? Will the car crash scene end up the same every time? Is there other ways to get into the club? Is it possible to not use the bridge at the end of the demo to escape the helicopter? Also, during the car crash scene, you see a man on the sidewalk rush to help any injured people; many are wondering if that is just the game's artificial intelligence in action or if that man will always be there to always tend to the wounded as a scripted event.
Regardless of these issues, Watch Dogs remains a game to watch. It appears to be going in a new direction in the open-world sandbox genre and what little we have seen in the demo has already been enough to take the gaming world by storm.

May 6th 2013 Update: How Watch Dogs Uses The PS4 Power
We already knew that Ubisoft was planning to use the expanded power of the PlayStation 4 to make this version of Watch Dogs improved over the current versions, we just didn't know how. Until now, that is.
In a developer diary on the official PlayStation blog, senior producer Dominic Guay has promised a Chicago that sports more pedestrians and more cars, creating a more lifelike city thanks to the PlayStation 4's expanded RAM and other hardware. In addition, the game will sport high-resolution textures and more realistic special effects, such as smoke and fire.
While we suspected that the PS4 version of Watch Dogs was going to be the definitive version, it's good to see some confirmation about how Watch Dogs will usher in the next generation on the PS4.

April 30th 2013 Update: Watch Dogs Release Date Announced!
Ubisoft has given Watch Dogs an official release date: November 19th for the United States and November 22nd for the United Kingdom. Currently, this release date is only for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U and PC, which Ubisoft claims is only because the PS4 does not currently have a release date.
However, this confirms that the game is ready to ship and that we will definitely see it at either the launch of the PS4, should the system launch in November, or a month later should the system launch in October.
Watch Dogs is set to be one of the hottest PS4 titles so fans can be certain that this fantastic game will be gracing the system before the year is up.
In addition, Ubisoft has confirmed that the exclusive 60 minutes of additional gameplay that the PS3 version of Watch Dogs is receiving will also come to the PlayStation 4.

April 12th 2013 Update: Watch Dogs Preorder Bonuses Leaked
From Russian blog HamsteRReality comes news of potential preorder bonuses Ubisoft may have lined up for Watch Dogs. These bonuses are set to include a 1920's gangster outfit complete with tommy gun, a futuristic outfit with a futuristic laser and a number of skins and tags for the game's multiplayer mode. However, keep in mind that these leaks are only rumors at this point: Ubisoft has not confirmed any Watch Dogs preorder incentives, though it's likely the game will have incentives of some sort for early customers.
Wait, multiplayer mode? You heard right. Watch Dogs will be sporting both cooperative and multiplayer modes in something Ubisoft has only revealed as "asynchronous multiplayer." Unfortunately, we'll most likely have to wait until E3 2013 before we get any more information about any of the game's planned multiplayer modes.

March 20th, 2013 Update: Watch Dogs To "Push The PS4 Further"
While the core gameplay and story of Watch Dogs will be the same on every system it releases on, Ubisoft is planning on taking advantage of the PlayStation 4's power to push the game further. Senior producer Dominic Guay revealed this information in an interview with Digital Spy:
"Every core pillar of the game is able to be pushed further. We're able to push the immersion. The fidelity of the graphics is one part of the immersion, but it's more than graphics. "We can spend more time in the brain of each AI with a more powerful machine, saying, 'OK, how will I react to what just happened there? Where will I run to? Will I call the cops?'"
"Fundamentally the core, innovative part of Watch Dogs is the same on every platform. But on PS4 we're able to push every lever a lot further."
It is clear that the definitive platform for this innovative game is the PlayStation 4. While no release date for Watch Dogs has been set, it will release at the launch of the PlayStation 4.

Update: Watch Dogs Is Hitting The Playstation 4 - February 21, 2013
When Ubisoft showed the world Watch Dogs for the first time last year many gamers were salivating with excitement. For those of you who don't know Watch Dogs, it's an open world game that sees you in the city of Chicago. Its a very interesting game-play dynamic. Hacking is your main weapon. The theme of the game seems to be how surveillance has taken over pretty much everyone’s life and if someone wanted to, they could take control of everything if they had the right technology and hacking abilities.
The fact that this huge game is going to make a splash on the Playstation 4 is huge news. At the Sony press conference there was a fair bit of video footage shown of the game actually running on the PlayStation 4 hardware and it looked amazing. There was so much detail and so much going on in the city, it was a nice early example and a little peak at just what the Playstation 4 is capable of.
