PlayStation 4 Midnight Launch Survival Guide

PlayStation 4 Midnight Launch Survival GuideIf you're reading this website, chances are good that you're a PlayStation 4 fanatic, eagerly waiting until the stroke of midnight on November 14th to purchase your PS4 as soon as possible on the November 15th launch.

To this end, many retail stores are looking to help you with this feat by hosting midnight launches. Whether you've preordered a console or are braving the crowds without a preorder, you need to have a gameplan. Knowing the plan of the major retail stores in the United States will help you plan in advance, enabling you to get your PlayStation 4 quickly and without any hassle.

GameStop ps4 GameStop
For starters, not every GameStop store will be hosting a midnight launch for the PlayStation 4. Contact your local store to determine if they are doing a midnight launch for the console before making any further plans.

If your store is doing a midnight launch, congratulations! All GameStop stores participating in the midnight launch on November 15th are not closing on the 14th, instead staying open right up until the PS4's launch.

GameStop recommends that if you haven't yet paid off your PS4 by the 14th, to come to the store early and complete your purchase. This way, the line can flow quickly at midnight as all that needs to happen is for people to pick up their consoles and not bog the line down with purchases.

GameStop will most likely not have any systems set aside for non-preorders, so if you haven't yet secured a preorder your best bet is to wait in front of a different store.

Best Buy
Best Buy ps4Best Buy will be hosting a midnight launch as well at many locations, however it will function slightly different than GameStop. Best Buy representatives ask that you bring a government issued ID and the receipt given to you when the preorder was placed -- no exceptions to these rules will be given. There will be two lines: one for customers who preordered and one for those who didnt. The limit on systems will be one per customer on a first come, first serve basis.

Best Buy will begin processing preorders at 10:00 pm on November 14th, making sure everyone in line has their preordered system paid in full. Customers who preordered will have priority over those who did not in terms of who gets their systems first.

Target
Target ps4Target is unfortunately not doing a midnight release, instead selling systems when the store opens at 8 am on November 15th.

Toys R Us
Toys R Us ps4Likewise, Toys R Us is not doing a midnight release as well, instead opting to sell systems when the store opens. No further information is available at this time.

Wal-Mart
Wal-Mart ps4By virtue of being a 24-hour store, Wal-Mart will be hosting midnight launches of the PlayStation 4. However, keep in mind this is Wal-Mart we're talking about here, and the employees most likely won't even know a new system is releasing.

No official information has been given regarding midnight launches at the chain, but expect pandemomium, chaos and a general bad time as Wal-Mart has never been the go-to store for cutting edge electronics releases.

However, due to how disorganized the stores usually are, this may be the best place to find a PS4 if you haven't preordered the system elsewhere.

K-Mart
K-Mart ps4For the few readers that still have a K-Mart in their area, there is no official information at this time about how the store will handle the PS4 release. However, don't expect midnight launches as historically, K-Mart has never participated in midnight releases of anything.

Costco / Costco.com
We walked into our local Costco and asked. They did not have it in their system YET but the manager recommended to check a few days before as they are likely to sell limited quantities on Nov 15th. The Manager also said to check online a few days before as well. That being said we recommend you ask your local Costco to find out more. They did sell the PS3 online when it was first released so let's see what they do with the PS4. Costco is huge so they will have PS4's it's just a matter of when. We are betting launch day. This may be a good option for people who have not pre-ordered their PS4 yet. We will let you know!

Update 11/15/13: You can buy a PS4 at your local Costco or on their website if you are a member. Limited quantities are available. You also have up to 90 days to return the console if you are dissatisfied.
