Release Date History

Both the PlayStation 1 and PlayStation 2, which dominated their generations of the console wars, came to market at the same time or earlier than their competition. The PlayStation 1 was launched just after the Sega Saturn, and well before the Nintendo 64, while the PlayStation 2 was released before both the Xbox and Nintendo Gamecube.

This enabled Sony to get a head start on the competition and gave developers time to build their skills at developing games for the console, to the point that even as more powerful consoles came after, games released on the older system were just as good technically, providing no real incentive for players to move to the new consoles.

This same effect has worked against the PlayStation 3 to some extent, as though considered to be far more powerful than the Xbox 360, the one year head start the 360 received has allowed developers to more quickly maximize the system's potential, resulting in games that rivaled games on the PS3 when it released. Only as the system's life spans come to an end will we likely see the PlayStation 3 come out with games that clearly trump what the 360 can do graphically.

August 20th - Official PS4 Release Date Announcement:
On August 20th, 2013 @ Gamescom Sony announced the official PS4 Release Date which is November 15th, 2013 in the United States and November 29th, 2013 in Europe! Gamers around the world rejoiced! What do you think, post your comments below.

August 5th, 2013 Update - Will the PS4 Release In December 2013?
According to BT, yes! The website is claiming to have the inside scoop on the PlayStation 4 release date, claiming that the system will land on:

December 13th, 2013
BT claims that after a Toys R Us website listing in the UK announced this date, a customer service representative for the company confirmed this date with them personally.

But slow down: BT has now contacted the leading toy retailer a second time only to hear that the release date is in fact not official, only that it's the company's best guess.

What do you think? December 2013? Earlier? Let us know in the comments!

June 20th, 2013 Update - Our Best Release Date Guess
E3 2013 has come and gone and while we now know pretty much all the PlayStation 4's technical specifications, the look of the system, the cost, and most of the games, we still don't know the most important part: the release date, or do we?

A photo has appeared, courtesy of NeoGAF User Cyborg, that shows signage from a Media Markt store in Amsterdam, Netherlands with an actual release date printed on it: November 13, 2013. Could we see the system hit the United States at around the same time as Europe? Possibly! This date, or anything close to it, would seem to make sense as it puts the release date before the infamous "Black Friday" (November 29th), which is the busiest day of the year for retail stores, and is followed by "Cyber Monday" (December 2nd), the busiest day of the year for online stores.

Even though the system is available to preorder, an official announcement about the release date still eludes us. What is Sony waiting for?

We at PS4 Experts have had enough of waiting so here is our own idea of when the release is happening: late October / early November.

We already know that Watch Dogs will be available at the system's launch, and the game officially comes out November 19th, 2013 for past generation systems. Expect to see the PS4 a few weeks before this date, possibly at the end of October. We are all looking forward to when the PS4 comes out, our gaming lives will be changed forever!

Better start saving up now!

April 30th, 2013 Update -- More Rumors Point To October 2013

First the Assassin's Creed IV team, now Naughty Dog possibly spills the beans in regards to an October 2013 release date.

Unlike Jean Guesdon, who was direct in his approach, Naughty Dog takes a different approach by what could be a subtle reference to the PS4 release date. This hint is found in their newest game The Last Of Us, one of the last titles to be released for the PlayStation 3.

In a recent trailer for the game, Joel and Ellie come across a sign that states "Mandatory Evacuation Notice: 10/17/2013." While many might think this was just a date chosen at random, could this in fact be Naughty Dog releasing the PS4 date in secret to its fans? After all, Naughty Dog is one of Sony's top developers so it's likely they are privy to such knowledge.

We've put the image below for your viewing pleasure! Let us know in the comments if you think this date is for real or just a joke by Naughty Dog.

PS4 Release Date

April 5th, 2013 Update -- PlayStation 4 In October 2013?
According to British newspaper The Sun, the PlayStation 4 could be out sooner than we all think.

Our first clue for an October 2013 release date was from members of the Assassin's Creed IV team, namely Jean Guesdon, who stated that the game will ship out on the PS4 at the same time as the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions: November 1st. This infers the system would need to be out before the game releases. However, The Sun claims to have heard from Sony CEO Andrew House himself that the system will definitely be hitting in October for 300 pounds, which translates to $450 -- another number we've heard come up again and again in regards to price.

Keep in mind that The Sun wasn't directly quoting Andrew House, only that he had made these comments to them. There is always the possibility of The Sun interpreting broad statements House made or misinterpreting the information altogether (or, to be a bit more cynical, fabricating data to sell papers), so we'll still have to wait for an official Sony statement for the actual release date.

i want ps4 when its out

Game Image on This Page

I see soo many problems with the graphics that they said they would have. That game has horrible anti-aliasing problems as well as major resolution upscale. Still a true 720p upscaled to a false 1080p resolution. Texture doesn't look great. Clothings aren't defined and sharp as claimed by critics.

I liked it, you live in

I liked it, you live in Hollywood don't you! Where special effects is the story .

Not only is this a ps3 game, but the ps4 is the only console that currently has true 1080p.

Oh dear, you do realise that

Oh dear, you do realise that this is a ps3 game, right? The last of us?

playstation 4 make love game myst 6?

what about online

what about the new games coming out on PS3 and PS4 like COD GHOSTS should we buy it on PS3 or PS4 because whos going to be online more PS4 GHOSTS or PS3 GHOSTS?

online time

due to the current reports on pre-orders either one would be a good system to buy it for. while the ps3 is current and already has many followers the number of pre orders for C.O.D. Ghosts in the ps4 is incredible so both systems should have many players online.

Russian Physist PS4 = 2015

No way!!!

I am going to buy a PS3 next year (2014) and you guys are talking about a PS4.... Sony is going to move PS4 from 2013 to 2014; then, from 2014 to 2015....

this is not a joke they won't to do that

Guess whos getting the ps4

i have read that we can play ps1 and 2 and 3 games on ps 4 is it true or just a lie can any one one answer me please :3

A lie

NO i repeat no backwards compatibility

no backwards compatibility

there will be no backwards compatibility for the ps4. meaning you will not be able to play playstation 1,2, and 3 games on ps4.

Not completely true

Though the PS4 will not DIRECTLY be able to play previous PS (1-2-3) games it will be able to stream them through the use of the gaikai network. It isn't disclosed as to the cost of the games but my advice is DON'T THROW AWAY YOUR OLD SYSTEM... that's it, simple as that. If you don't want to buy the system merely because the unit will not be DIRECTLY BC... okay. Don't buy it. The XBone will no be BC as well so the next gen systems will not play games from the previous generation. If this is your sole issue, stay with the current gen. If not invest in the new tech will keeping your old equipment.

People don't realize that if the new systems were to be DIRECTLY BC then their cost would be considerably more due to the differences in the architecture or programming method. The PS3 and the PS4 are to drastically different, with the notable differences being that of the Cell Processor (now considered an expensive flop) vs the AMD processor.

I've been reading so many news about ps4, and I want it RIGHT NOW! I live in asia and i want ps4 BADLY as any of you here. But sadly I can't pre-order here. If Sony/Playstation is reading this, please, there are not people in the U.S. and Europe wants the PS4, What about the rest of the world? WE Want the PS4 too, To Sony/PS4, Please release ps4 in asia not in U.S. and Europe only?

First to second week of Novemeber for Release my guess

I believe it will come out within the first 2 weeks of November. PS4 has to come out early November to compete with Xbox one head on from the beginning. If ps4 coming out a month later than Xbox one would make no sense.

December Doesn't Sound Right

I don't know... December seems a bit late for it to come out, doesn't it? It doesn't provide much time to buy as Christmas gifts. November seems much more reasonable to me.

PS5 Controller

When or if the PS5 comes out, they should make the controller have wireless chargers, like you can play and the controller should be charging at the same time wirelessly.

ps5 wireless controller

it is controller must have solar cell so that it can charge by itself

You need an old school double A battery powered controler for your problem!

ya you've been watching to

ya you've been watching to much movies to think you can charge your controller without a cable

Great idea

This is truly a great a idea but sadly we have not reach the point in which we could charge items wirelessly. There's a lot wrong with charging items wirelessly. Example to charge something wirelessly you have to take energy which is in the form of electricity and convert it into a photon form traveling as a wavelength still powerful enough to charge an object. Now you have to take that wavelength and send it to an object across the room. The problem is what happens if something walks in between the signal of the power source and object? Well it will probably get cooked because in order to send a signal strong enough to an object and charge it will require the signal to be some sort of radiation. So until people like dying while playing on their game consoles, wirelessly charging will be impossible. However it's a great idea though. Eventually in the future we will be able to do this.

wireless charging Great idea

it is possible by solar by room light or electric shock

is there anyway to make it charge by turning it into how a wireless controler sends what you do to the system?

how wireless controler sends to system

by bluetooth

For the P.C. TROLLS

P.C. gameing may have the edge graphics wise but it is not as cost effective as console gameing. A low end gameing rig can cost around $550 to $ 900 U.S. And $1100 to $3500 at the high end. And as for the ( DO IT YOUR SELF CROUD ) of witch i have much more respect for. It can get more spendy
A gameing motherboard with multipul videocard slots be they crossfier or S.L.I. interface will run you anywhare between. $150 and $350

Then the video card about the same $150 to $ 450 or more.
power suply about $60 Harddrive 3TB 7200 R.P.M. $109 to 250. low to high end.
BluRay DVD burnner combo drive $69 to $ 152
Costome cace $80 to $110
Media card reader $25 to $45
and memory 8GB DDR3 is about $ 75 per dim at 2 GB And around $125 per 4 GB dimm
This is building a new rig if your upgraiding frome a bareboans and old system you will save big time $$$ And my figures dont show cost of fans and connection ribbons. Pc standards change about every 3 to 5 months and with in a year you will have to upgraid again. Console systems do have there limmitations true. But there ment for a 7 to 10 year life span. Cace in point the N.E.S and Playstation1 were around 10 or 11 when they were discontinued. Or the PS2 that just stopped production in March of this year. To compair console gameing to P.C gameing shows just how dim a snob can be If your wondweing I have been a hardcor gamer for 32 years I have Owned just about every gameing system under the sun I still play on my NEO-GEO PC ENGIN SUPER NES and P.C. too. . P.C. eletist justneed to pissoff because disspite what format you play on gamer are gamers.

Maybe you should have spent a

Maybe you should have spent a few years in elementary school learning how to spell basic words rather than playing video games. When I read things written this poorly I quit reading around the 5th error, which unfortunately in this case was the second sentence. How can anyone take you seriously if you can't write above a 5th grade level?

No Life

People who really correct people on spelling or grammar and say they need to go back to elementary really have no life. Who really points out people writing errors on the internet people who have to much time on there hands. This isn't language arts class. Go get a life.

I agree!

I agree people that point out spelling or grammar mistakes need to get a life.

Ingornace is not OK

We are evolving as a human race, not de-evolving. To think its okay to not know how to communicate properly makes me sad. You should watch the movie Idiocracy, because that is the path you are on.

ok then

while you have valid points and I can forgive you atrocious spelling... I don't see how you could have been a "hardcore gamer" for 32 years... I'm 33... and I've been playing games since I was 3 (the last few years of Atari on)... so unless you were "hardcore gaming" with pitfall and asteroids you're mistaken... I'm fairly sure the term "hardcore gamer" hadn't even been keyed yet... I mean how old are you? Or are you one of those people who picked up a game controller straight out of the womb? I mean, I'm pretty hardcore, but I don't think I played them that much until Nintendo came out... from then on though.... we just won't talk about that.

43 and Gaming Since I was 6

OK quick calculation - That's 37 years! I gamed in aracdes, played the early Pong games on my TV. Had a ZX81 that I played a lot of games on, moved on to a ZX Spectrum and then Commodore Amiga. At the same time various hand held devices came and went from a a small single screen LCD game called Banana Skin and Caveman to my LED game Scramble (That used to eat batteries for fun). A hand held black jack game (about the size of 4 ipads stacked on top of each other). Moved onto to PC's, made the mistake of buying an Amiga CD32 at one point, various Nintendo devices (Gameboys and DS's), both the PSP and the Vita, both Xboxs, all three Playstations and a Wii. I guess you may not say I've been hardcore gaming, but Computer based gaming of one type or another has been around longer than you've been on this earth, so just because you only really played when Nintendo came out doesn't meen that many people before you weren't already wasting their life playing games. Oh and I'm not the first poster, just irked by your assumption people didn't play much before you were aware of the gaming world. Just go have a really good look at MAME and similar emulators and you might learn something :)

I'm guessing people took my comment as an insult by the tone of replies... to be honest... I forgot I even posted on here... you got 4 years on me... kudos I guess... I wasn't aware of that gaming world... because I wasn't born yet... My parents made the mistake of buying me an Atari when I was 3 and it kinda took off from there... I wasn't insinuating that if you're younger than me (or older) that games didn't exist before me, I'm not that conceited... I guess I don't understand how anyone would want to play games ALOT like they do today with the way they were when I was a kid first starting out with them... Really the only reason why I questioned "hardcore gamer for 33 years".. I guess they were fun at the time and I played alot too.. don't think I grew to be "hardcore" until I was 6 or 7 though when the nintendo was releasing good games.... I didn't mean to insult people... love how everyone on these boards feels the need to insult and poke at people and thus everyone thinks everything is an insult and feels the need to "come back" with something..
