In Europe at least... Sony’s European blog recently unveiled their plans for a new PlayStation App, which will launch shortly in several European countries. It’s not yet known when the App will be available outside of Europe.
The app will not be overly heavy on features immediately, but should see a steady stream of updates and added functionality over time. For now, you’ll be able to keep up to date with the latest PlayStation news and information, be it for the PS2, PSP, PS3, or even the PS4 (when the time comes). As well, it supplies updates directly from the official European PlayStation blog. You’ll also be able to access a huge database of games from all PlayStation systems, with listings of game features, plot summaries, developer info, etc.
On the social front, you’ll be able to post content directly to Facebook or Twitter, as well as follow your friend’s exploits. Not only can you track the games your friends have, and their online status, but you can also monitor their trophy status and trophy level as well; perfect when you have a ‘friendly’ wager going with a friend as to who can rack up more trophies in a certain game.
The PlayStation App will be free to download, and will be available for iPhone, iPod Touch, and most handsets running the Android OS. iPad compatibility is rumoured to be in the works, while BlackBerry and Windows Phone 7 support doesn’t seem likely, at least not in the near future.
