Keiji Inafune has been called many things over his illustrious career in game development. Innovator. Genius. Legend.
When a man has worked on such classic series as Resident Evil and Dead Rising and cannot claim either of those as his biggest accomplishment, you know he has achieved something great. And Keiji Inafune has: he is the creator of Mega Man, one of the most popular franchises the gaming world has ever seen.
But what happens when you leave the company your creation belongs to, such as when Inafune left Capcom? You start over again but with a brand new cast and some interesting new mechanics. Unveiled at PAX Prime 2013, say hello to Mighty No. 9, Keiji Inafune's next big project.
What Is Mighty No. 9?
Simply put, Mighty No. 9 is Mega Man but for a new generation. The game is a side scrolling action game where players take on the role of Beck, the ninth of a powerful group of robots. Unfortunately, robots one through eight have gone berserk and it's up to Beck to defeat each one, gaining each robot's power as he defeats them. Sound familiar?
Where Mighty No. 9 differs from Mega Man is that Beck can not only steal the power's of the bosses he fights, but also the powers of any enemy in the game. Unlike Mega Man, Beck's entire body transforms to accommodate his new skills.
To back Inafune up is a veteran team of Japanese developers, with many on his team assisting him in various Mega Man games throughout the years. If there is any group of developers who understand how this game should feel, it's the ones Inafune has assembled here.
And that's pretty much all we know, but just that small amount has been enough for gamers to pledge over two million dollars on Kickstarter to Inafune's development studio Comcept. Numerous stretch goals have already been unlocked, adding more bosses, stages and modes to the game!
PS4 Support Rests In Your Hands
Currently, Mighty No. 9 is only slated to hit the PC in Spring 2015. Inafune has set stretch goals for both PlayStation 3 and 4, and with 19 days to go it is a given that the 2.2 million goal for PS3 development will become a reality.
Unfortunately, the PS4 stretch goal is set at 3.3 million, a significantly higher amount. Why so high? Inafune claims this is because him and his staff are unfamiliar with the PS4 architecture, so the number must be higher because his team must not only port the game to PS4 but learn to port it in the first place.
PS4 Experts readers, do you want to see Mighty No. 9 hit the PS4? It's fate rests in your hands. Get on over to the Kickstarter page and pledge your support!
This is one opportunity where only you can make the game available on the PlayStation 4.
You did it !
The Mighty No. 9 campaign is over, and you did it! Mighty No. 9 cleared over 4 million dollars, officially giving the game a PlayStation 4 version!
Now the long wait begins as Inafune and his team begin work on the game. The team has promised to keep updates coming fast and furious and that you will play a large part in designing the game. Keep it locked to PS4 Experts for news on how you can influence this sure to be amazing game!
