The Biggest Rumors Surrounding the PS4

Check out these articles:

When you have a console enjoyed by millions and desired by millions, it is expected to see rumors circulate about the console and what players can expect. Such is the case with the PS4, as already there are rumors being spread about the console and what lies ahead. Some are exciting, some are negative, yet one thing is for certain: whether these rumors are proven to be true or false, 2014 is going to be an exciting here for PS4 owners. Here are some of the PS4’s biggest rumors of the moment.

Sony is aiming to release its own virtual reality headset in 2014
If the Oculus Rift proved one thing, it’s that we now have the technology to develop virtual reality headsets that function exactly as we imagined them 20 years ago. If you grew up in the 90’s, you will remember that virtual reality was all the rage, and it seemed as if virtual reality was just around the corner. If you used the virtual reality headsets from that era though, you will recall that nothing could have been further from the truth. These virtual reality headsets were awful, they added nothing to gameplay, and they looked stupid to say the least.

The Biggest Rumors Surrounding the PS4Now? Virtual reality is here, and supposedly, Sony wants to take advantage of the technology. Thus, there is a rumor circulating that Sony is aiming to release its own virtual reality headset in 2014. Supposedly, both Sony and Oculus are rumored to be seeking a partnership, which could mean Oculus Rift-caliber headsets could be developed by Oculus and sold by Sony, meaning PS4 owners would get the same experience on their PS4 that Oculus Rift beta testers are currently raving about.

There was a rumor that it would be unveiled at CES 2014, but since CES is over that obviously didn’t happen. If it is announced and released this year, it will likely be at E3 in June.

Sony has created an ‘artificial shortage’ to increase demand for the PS4
Sony has created an ‘artificial shortage’ to increase demand for the PS4Perhaps the most ridiculous rumor on this list, there is word that Sony has actually created an ‘artificial shortage’ to increase worldwide demand for the PS4. SCEA CEO Jack Tretton has tried to debunk this rumor, stating the following in December, 2013:

"Do you create an artificial shortage because you want there to be a feeding frenzy? No you don't. You have competition out there; there are lots of things that people can spend money on, especially during the holidays; and the holidays only come around once a year so that's really when you want to take advantage of the market opportunity."

Even so, the rumor still exists. With the PS4 being difficult to find in many retailers around the world, people are beginning to get suspicious and are starting to spread this rumor. Is it true? All signs point to ‘no,’ but it’s enough to excite conspiracy theorists nonetheless.

GTA V has been confirmed for the PS4
GTA V has been confirmed for the PS4For months, it was rumored that Grand Theft Auto V was set to be released on the PS4 shortly. Rockstar Games has failed to confirm this, yet many people are doing some snooping of their own as they try to find any hints of a potential release date. It seems that someone may have stumbled across an interesting bit of information though, as according to TheSixthAxis, someone contacted Amazon and asked a representative if the game would be released on next-gen consoles. Their response?

”I am sorry but for PS4 and Xbox One there is no update yet, please check back by first week of January. We might have the update by then please.”

Amazon is notorious for letting release dates slip, and while the first week of January has come and went with no official announcement, many analysts predict GTA V will indeed see a release on the PS4 soon.

Crash Bandicoot will be announced for the PS4 shortly, other big game announcements
Crash Bandicoot will be announced for the PS4 shortly, other big game announcementsFinally, there are a few rumors regarding upcoming game announcements that are currently in circulation. The biggest rumor is the next installment of the Crash Bandicoot series hitting the PS4, as according to Game Informer, there may be hope for the franchise yet:

"Activision owns Crash Bandicoot and we continue to explore ways in which we could bring the beloved series back to life."

A LEGO game based on The Hobbit could also be hitting the PS4 this year as well. According to Kotaku, a game based on The Hobbit film trilogy could be coming to a handful of consoles, including the PS4.

Finally, Mirror states that Gran Turismo 7 could be released in 2014. According to Kazunori Yamauchi, CEO of Polyphony Digital, he said in a statement last year that:

”We don’t want to take too long on Gran Turismo 7. Best case scenario? Next year.”
