Do You Game enough?

Believe it or not, you don’t have to sit on the couch 24 hours a day to be a Gamer. Yes, if you make a living using the industry you do put more time into gaming, but I’m talking the average Gamer here, the hobbyist.

When I say average, it's by no means to say they have any less a love for video games than any other. I simply mean that these are the Gamers that are time sensitive. Between work, family and other responsibilities, there isn’t always a lot of free time to get their game on. It’s reasons like this that the number players out there don’t identify as Gamers.

I guess the stereotype of a Gamer is either a whiny, bratty little kid that lacks serious discipline and guidance or an overweight slob that lives in his parents basement long after entering adulthood. I’m not really sure how it was decided that these the ingredients are what make a Gamer, but I am more than happy to take it upon myself to dispel these false allegations.

In every group you find, there is always that one person that makes everyone else look bad, gaming is no different. I think part of the problem here, is the lack of positive people that actually chime in for the community. The fact that Call of Duty Infinite Warfare’s reveal trailer is officially the most disliked trailer on YT, it really goes to show you how many people are willing to troll and how many would rather keep their likes to themselves and avoid being trolled in exchange.

So what do we have so far? Bratty kids, bratty grownups and angry trolls. Things sure aren’t looking good for my case in dispelling the stereotype of Gamers, but truth be told, there is a lot of great people out there that have a genuine liking for video games and they outnumber the folks that tend to bring our community down. They may be hard to find when you’re surfing social media, but they are out there.

I can’t say that I run into a lot of gamers in person when i'm out of the house, unless of course I’m hitting a gaming convention (which I highly recommend if you are able to attend one). I do however chat it up with a lot of different people online and the majority I come across are pretty cool. A lot of the people I talk with about gaming, show an interest in hearing about new games. Point being is, you don’t need to play every game out there, you don’t need to spend hours on end playing. All you really need is an interest in games and an open mind. A good personality can go a long way as well.

So what type of gamer are you?
