Today was the day we've all been waiting for! Sony officially announced the PlayStation 4 release date at it's Gamescom conference!
United States: November 15th, 2013
Europe: November 29th, 2013
But this isn't all they announced! In a media briefing that lasted almost two hours, Sony showed that they were ready for the next generation in a big way.
In terms of additional console news, Sony revealed two colors for the DualShock 4 that will be available after launch: Magma Red and Wave Blue! This mimics the DualShock 3, which also featured red and blue controllers. Which one will you choose? Of course, standard black is always an option as well!
Sony announced that Twitch is coming to the PlayStation 4, in a move that surprised no one. What did surprise everyone is that PlayStation 4 buyers will receive a complimentary 14 day pass to PlayStation Plus to sample all the new features.
Sony showed off Vita compatibility, stating that all PlayStation 4 games will be able to be played on the Vita via remote play. Now that the Vita has received a price drop to $200 as of today, will you be picking one up to go with your PlayStation 4?
As games is a part of the name, you'd expect a large showing of new games at Gamescom and Sony didn't disappoint. Take a look at this list of new releases:

- Binding of Isaac
- Guns of Icarus Online
- The Playroom
- Everybody's Gone To The Rapture
- Shadow of the Beast
- War Thunder
Sony has fully committed itself to indies in a big way, which means you can expect a lot of new and inventive experiences you won't get on any other console. Many of these games have already been released on other systems and are proven winners, so this is nothing but good news for Sony.
But what about retail games? Perhaps you're wondering what games you can purchase when the PlayStation 4 launches in just a few short months. Luckily for you, Sony has revealed a list of all available launch window games so you can start picking which games you want to buy with your new system.
Sony also announced an interesting program, whereby gamers who buy the PlayStation 3 version of a game, such as Battlefield 4, can buy a digital copy of the PlayStation 4 version of the same game at a severely discounted rate.
