In speaking to OPM, the website of the Official PlayStation Magazine, Sony‘s UK Vice President Fergal Gara revealed that the PlayStation 4 has reached over one million preorders worldwide.
Because of this, Sony has had to make the unfortunate decision of restricting preorders because they can no longer guarantee launch day units. Gara explains that this is due to the preorder numbers being "..higher than we’ve ever seen in 20 years in this business".
Gara continues, explaining that "we are going to be looking at a sell-out situation and chasing demand, it’s a problem, it’s kind of a good problem to have, but it is a problem and we’re trying to manage that as responsibly as we possibly can.
In order to manage this problem, Gara mentions that Sony has advised retailers on what to tell potential customers, stating that "from August the 5th, they should not guarantee anyone they will get their unit on day one."
If you've preordered your system at any retailer before August 5th, expect to get a PS4 on launch day. If not, well, you may be in for a small wait.
Let us know in the comments whether you can expect your system on launch!
