If CEO Alex Rigopulos is to be believed, then it very well could.
At PAX East, he laid this bomb on the crowd:
"[The Rock Band and Dance Central franchises] are near and dear to our hearts and our minds. And we have grand plans to bring back both of them with guns blazing at some point in the coming console cycle."
We all remember a time when Rock Band, along with Guitar Hero, was one of the biggest trends and franchises in the video game world. However, an overabundance of releases and plastic peripherals proved to be too much for gamers; eventually, this fad fell by the wayside with both Harmonix and Activision shelving the Rock Band and Guitar Hero franchises, respectively.
But it looks like Rock Band is due for a comeback, and we all know that once Rock Band comes back, Guitar Hero will too. Is the gaming world prepared for the return of plastic guitars and drums?
If these franchises are controlled with staggered releases, then possibly. Rock Band 3 had the right idea: put out one game and support it with DLC for a few years. Guitar Hero, on the other hand, felt the need to release a new game every year with a whole new round of plastic instruments. To this day, many GameStop stores still won't take the instruments in trade.
What do you think? Will Rock Band and Guitar Hero work on the PlayStation 4? Do you think this is one fad that needs to stay buried? Let us know in the comments and on Facebook!
