Sony to skip E3 2019

Well, Game Informer has reported word directly from Sony, that the video game giant will not be making an appearance at E3 - 2019. Mixed feelings across the internet are making rounds and a lot of PlayStation fans aren’t thrilled about the idea. I’m real happy about it either, but what can you do?

During an interview with Game Informer, Sony Reps stated this:
“As the industry evolves, Sony Interactive Entertainment continues to look for inventive opportunities to engage the community," the company told Game Informer in a statement. "PlayStation fans mean the world to us and we always want to innovate, think differently and experiment with new ways to delight gamers. As a result, we have decided not to participate in E3 in 2019. We are exploring new and familiar ways to engage our community in 2019 and can’t wait to share our plans with you.”

Sony was asked if they had any plans to host a solo event outside of E3. The answer was no and shouldn’t be a surprise as the still somewhat young PSX event was also cancelled by Sony. When the PlayStation Experience (PSX) was cancelled earlier this year, SEI chairman Shawn Layden said there simply wasn’t enough to show this year.

Apparently, Sony plans to explore other ways to reach fans and community, but we have no real idea of what will happen next. With a shortage of what to show at two major events this year, it really makes you wonder what is going to next? Some are speculating the shortage leads to 2019 release of PS5 and others are saying 2020 is the year. So on and so forth.

It is interesting to think that PS5 is on the way, later this year, but I also think that E3 2019, would be the place you would announce such news. Time will tell, but I’m expecting 2020 will be a the release year and later in 2019, we will see an unveiling of the PS5. I don’t know, just a hunch, I guess.

Are you upset that Sony won’t be hosting PSX or showing up for E3? This is the first E3 in 24 years that Sony won’t make appearance. Let me know if you think something big is brewing or if we're just about to hit drought in games for 2019.
